Hello. I first have to thank you for helping people feel less panicked and scared of doomsday scenarios. I live in Finland and news have been talking quite a bit of about possible nuclear war thanks to ow things have been going. Naturally because my country is neighbor with Russia and with our colorful history, I fear we would be one of the first countries to get turned to ash.
Sorry to hear that. No there is NO WAY that Russia attacks Finland. ALL THEIR SOLDIERS THEY CAN SPARE ARE IN UKRAINE. They are SO SHORT OF SOLDIERS FOR THE UKRAINE WAR they had to call on NorthKoreans to try to push Ukraine out of Kursk oblast.
They would have to depend on North Korean soldiers to spare even 1000 soldiers to attack Finland!
And their air defences are so useless that Ukraine is now able to fly microlights for hours through Russian air space to h it targets 1000 miles away at about the speed of a fast car. They can't seem to shoot down even microlights nowadays because their fighter jets are busy bombing the Ukrainians and their air defences have been removed to try to protect their soldiers in Ukraine.
When Russia is so scared of 1980s technology, which is what ATACMS are there is no WAY they attack NATO which has the capability with their F-35s to take over trhe entire Russian air space in a few hours and Russia has nothing to match them. Nothing could even see them before they are shot down or their radar systems shot out.
Yes but not all of them. Which is how it should be. Similarly Russia can't intercept US ICBMs. Indeed Russia is likely far more vulnerable than NATO, they can't even stop Ukraine from sending slow propellor driven drones to attack the Moscow oil refinery. Which supplies fuel for the war and also income for the military. https://www.youtube.com/embed/5ektB1cQvk0
They are incredibly vulnerable to NATO which has vastly superior technology and so won't attack.
No country has ever had the capability for a first strike or even anywhere close to it.
BLOG: Nukes as one way we prevent wars - debunk of fantasy ideas - nukes can’t be used to “win” or make a country uninhabitable - Soviet Union/ Russia NEVER had the ability to win with a nuclear “first strike” and the US also NEVER had that ability
The US has some systems called THAAD and others that can intercept ICBMs in tests. They may be adequate to protect it against an attack from a small country like North Korea.
But not against Russia. The whole point in the arms reduction talks is that there is no way either side can ever have enogh nukes to defeat the other side in war and also there is no way to get 100% protection from the other side's nukes. So this means that neither side will ever start a nuclear war.
So they can reduce nukes on both sides. So long as each side has enough nukes to deter the other side from attacking.
No big deal. The Soviet Union built vast numbers of fallout shelters which Russia surely already has. In the Ukraine war the Ukrainians shelter from the Russian bombs in shelters from the Soviet Union built to withstand nuclear bombs. They are deep underground.
Looks like this one is just going to be placed on the surface. And seems pretty much for show - way over priced for what it is and not likely to make many.
It would protect from fallout and from the shockwave. But a well constructed house does a pretty good job too and a basement in a house would be just as good as this as would an interior room without windows, or a table with boxes piled on top and to the sides that you sit under. And just being indoors and at a distance from the dust protects you. The more you have between you and the fallout the better.
Many people don't realize, that fallout is just heavy dust and it isn't in the air, so you don't need special filtration because any fine dust that would drift into it wouldn't fall out of the sky. The fallout is just the mushroom cloud which is heavy dust and the heaviest dust falls out of the sky, light dust is scattered in the upper atmosphere and mixes with the harmless background radiation we have everywhere anyway and is mostly short lived and would lose almost all its radioactivity before it reaches the ground.
And the heavier dust that reaches the ground is also short lived for an air burst and it is mostly gone in 2 days at which point if you know of somewhere safer to go that's when to move and it is back pretty much to normal within 2 weeks, you could travel almost anywhere so long as you avoid the worst hot spots such as ground penetrating explosions.
BLOG: Most people don’t know: fallout is HEAVY dust - NOT fog - falls to the ground after 15 mins - and fallout gets MUCH less radioactive in hours - so you CAN protect yourself - if authorities thought there was a real risk we’d be told these things
Not that there is any need to know this, the governments would tell us this if we needed to know with the potential to save millions of lives if there was any real risk as in the cold war.
It is just performative, just political signaling.

Is it possible for NATO to intercept a Russian intercontinental missile ?
What is NATO's anti-missile defense system like?

That is the theory of deterrence.
