Yeah not just his church attendance though. By his actions I mean his lying, his attitudes towards woman and minorities, personally attacking people. And the rape allegations that he has been found liable for in court.

But you are correct that most Christians are a bit hazy about what they believe. I mean I consider myself a Christian and I'm hazy about what exactly I believe.

I just don't want to go into that. If he's done something illegal it's for the courts. If he's done something that is against Christian teachings then that is between him and God or Jesus for Christians and something for him to ask forgiveness for. And for everyone it's a journey and a path. We can't see his path in its totality.

You are absolutely correct. Ultimately it is between him and god, I guess because I've just followed Trump a lot these past 8 years and have been outraged by all of the things he's done, I just have a tendency to question his religiosity even though I shouldn't but what is it we all say "I'm a flawed human."

Thanks again Robert.

Thanks Robert. Though I wouldn't necessarily call Trump a devout Christian, I mean who knows what he really believes and he does surround himself with evangelical Christians but his actions don't exactly spell devout christian.

But anyway thanks again.

Oh okay. Yes agree it's not the right word as it assumes too much. I thought he was a regular churchgoer like Biden which would be a better term than devout - but seems not. I've found 9 church attendances in his 4 years as president, 3 in 2017 and 2018, 2 in 2019 and none in 2020 - attends Easter and Christmas every year except in 2020 because of COVID. And attends on other occasions, his inauturation in 2017, the funeral of Geroge H.W. Bush in 2018 and two personal visits on top of his usual 2 times a year in 2019.

I agree he doesn't seem to be very thoroughly versed in Christianity but then many Christians are a bit hazy about what they believe.

Of course someone can be a practicing Christian and never attend services because they do so at home. Both my parents were devout Christians, both ordained ministers, and when I was a child we all attended services every week. But later in life when living in a remote rural area of Scotland they only rarely attended any churches. They were no less committed to their Christian faith. |

So - you can't tell just from his attendance record but for someone who is a president, it's a little surprising, you'd expect him to attend more often if he was a deeply committed practicing Christian.

Checking,. this may be a complete list of all the times he attended church services as president, it leaves out occasions when he just used a church as the backdrop for a speech or visited a church for campaign purposes without attending a service etc: He seems to attend church on average 3- 4 times a year. Christmas, Easter, his inauguration day, funeral of former President George H.W. Bush and on a couple of other occasions.

Total of 9 times in 4 years.

2017: Inauguration, Easter and Christmas.

2018: funeral of former President George H.W. Bush, Easter and Christmas.

2019: two personal occasions, Easter and Christmas.

I can't find any services he attended in 2020. He didn't attend the usual Christmas service in Palm Beach because of COVID, his church held a virtual service.

QUOTE STARTS

Jan. 20, 2017: Trump attended a service at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square on his inauguration day. His predecessors, including former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan attended services at the same church on their inauguration days. Former President Bill Clinton attended services at Metropolitan AME Church, a historically black church in Washington, D.C.

April 16, 2017: Trump attended Easter services at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Church in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump was in Florida because he spent the Easter holiday at his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Dec. 24, 2017: Trump attended Christmas Eve services at Bethesda-by-the-Sea church in Palm Beach. Again, Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort to spend the Christmas holiday.

April 1, 2018: On his second Easter in the White House, Trump again attended church services at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, as he once again was at his Mar-a-Lago resort for the holiday.

Dec. 5, 2018: Trump attended the funeral service of former President George H.W. Bush at the Washington National Cathedral, along with his five living predecessors. But Trump caused a stir when he did not say the Apostles' Creed, which according to the Washington Post is "one of the prayers most core to Christianity."

Dec. 24, 2018: Trump attended Christmas Eve services at the Washington National Cathedral because he couldn't travel to Mar-a-Lago thanks to the government shutdown.

March 17, 2019: After a monthslong church-going drought, Trump attended Lenten services at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square. Prior to his church attendance, Trump was airing his grievances on Twitter, including frustration about his portrayal on "Saturday Night Live."

April 21, 2019: Trump was back in Palm Beach for Easter, where he again attended Easter services at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

June 2, 2019: After playing a round at his golf property in Virginia, Trump went to a conservative evangelical church for 11 minutes so the church's pastor could pray over him. Rev. Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, had designated the day as a "Special Day of Prayer" for Trump.

Dec. 24, 2019: Trump was back in Florida for his annual Christmas holiday at Mar-a-Lago. But rather than attend Bethesda-by-the-Sea, Trump went to Christmas Eve services at a "conservative Baptist-affiliated church" in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to USA Today. Trump's change of church venue came days after a Christian magazine wrote an op-ed criticizing Trump's "grossly immoral character."
